EMOTIONS: The secret behind an Effective Online Video

January 15, 2014

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend a training on The importance of Online Video for marketing a Small Business. It was very informative with a lot of statististics and facts.

One of the facts presented was that 93% of corporations have online videos, but only 38% of small businesses invest in this type of marketing. My first thought was that it maybe because of time, money, or lack of information about it. To be honest, I have a "weak" online video presence.

My emotional awareness started to send me messages, that I would like to share with you. First, I felt curious, interested and excited.

  • I learned about the average cost of developing a basic, intermediate or advanced online video. Yes, there are some that obviously are out of my budget.

  • I learned that there are viral videos, branded videos, product videos, user generated videos, and interactive videos. What type of information do I want to share with my potential clients? Who are my potential clients? How they are going to have access to my video? How are they going to be aware of my online video? Thinking about all these questions, I realized that I don't have all the answers. I'm in a process of Progressive Elaboration, and that's OK.

  • I learned that there a variety of companies that facilitate the targeted of the videos. And, also how online video work with SEO ranking.

  • and much more....

After the presentation, I felt overwhelmed, confused and surprised. Let me explain myself. There were so much information. I decided to process my emotions using my DRW EI method.

  • Responsibility: I am responsible for the institute online video presence. I am responsible for the content, budget, and distribution channels. And when I said "I", means my board. I love the fact, that I don't have to make this type of decision by myself.

  • Honesty: I have to define "my video online presence". Based on my resources, how could I feel satisfied at this moment?, and develop an effective action plan to raise the bar.

  • Commitmment: I have to decide if I want "a stronger online video presence" at this point, and commit to the project with time, money and effort.

  • Creativity: I have to look for available options for my project.

  • Confidentiality: I have to evaluate the type of information that I want to share in the online video. And feel good about it.

  • Tolerance: I have to evaluate the institute tolerance based on time, money and efforts. Which are my limits today?, and feel good about it.

  • Integrity: I have to stand by for what I can and for what I want. There are so many resources - and there could be some pressure on this subject.

  • Initiative: I have to take action. My emotions, my gut and my inner person will facilitate the process.

As you may notice, the simple fact of making a online video marketing campaign could cause a lot of emotions in a small business owner. The key is to listen, accept, respect and honor those emotions; use them to identify your areas of improvement, develop action plans, educate yourself and take action. Every project should have a plan. A plan that you feel comfortable and peaceful with.

To recap, the secret behind an effective online video for your business is listen, accept, respect and honor your emotions during all the phases of your project.
