Vision Boards: A relaxing and healthy exercise
On Friday, January 17, DrW Life Skills Institute's staff facilitated the Vision Board Workshop at the Society of Emotional Intelligence first event of the year. The family oriented gathering welcomed business and community leaders who seek to connect with those who share related interest but may have different experiences.
Dr. Wanda Bonet-Gascot, President of DrW Life Skills Institute and Orlando Chapter Chair shared the SoEI's mission to continue facilitating events that promote and apply emotional intelligence in the Central Florida community. "When people learn to apply emotional intelligence in their daily personal and professional decision making, they encourage better outcomes", Dr.W, said.
Emotional Intelligence is described by experts as a set of skills that influence self-perception, the way we express ourselves, performance and even how we socialize and relate in life (work, family, and community). Efrain Iglesias, Clinical Psychologist addressed attendees and explained the importance of developing skills that support healthier behaviors, in order to successfully deal with life challenges and conflicts.
A great variety of age groups, professions and cultures were represented at the first SoEI 2014 kickoff event. Guest enjoyed delicious appetizers and refreshments provided by members and SoEI sponsors, Julio Rocha from Rocha Financial and Karen Fortune from Organo Coffee. DrW Life Skills Institute allowed the SoEI to hold the event at their Kissimmee location in the University of Central Florida Incubator.
Suzette Rivera, VP of Operation of DrW Life Skills Institute led the workshop by encouraging guest to choose from different magazines, their favorite pictures and words that represented their personal and professional 2014 goals. Although at the end all the vision boards reflected different images, styles, colors, and symmetry, they all managed to stimulate refreshing aspirations.
When asked about her thoughts on the vision board workshop, a mental health professional, shared the exercise encouraged her to focus on her personal and professional goals and desires, something she does for others on daily basis. Other guests described experiencing positive thoughts and feelings as they were putting on paper their longings for the future.
Workshop attendants were able to unwind from their work week and multiple roles as they enjoyed a relaxed environment. The multicultural crowd was described as a "lovely group of people", and the environment as stress relieving; attendees also agreed that the fellowship and workshop was a good time investment.
DrW Life Skills Institute's Staff encouraged the audience to use their vision board as a starting point and to continue applying emotional intelligence principals when creating action plans to turn their visions into achievements.
