Blocked Emotions and Physical Health

March 17, 2014

Emotions are mental stimuli which influence our life. Under normal circumstances, they are not a cause of disease. Hardly any human being can avoid being angrym sad, aggrieved, worried, or afraid at some point in his or her life but those states will not lead to any disharmony. The emotions becomes causes of disease only when they are either long-lasting, or very intense.

As Doctor in Holistic Health, I know about the relation of blocked or suppressed emotions in the physical health. Blocked emotions could cause:

  • psychosomatic conditions

  • violation of human rights

  • unhealthy interpersonal relationships

Just to mention some of the physical illness associated to emotional blockage, that I have seen in my clients:

  • Cancer: associated to deep secrets. Cancer could indicate hatred, guilt or grief.

  • Chronic Pain: associated to resentment, specially in joints and knees.

  • Hips problems: associated with fearful of moving forward or making changes.

As practitioner, I don't diagnose conditions. But I can facilitate the development of skills that could help you to manage better your emotions.

Most of us were taught fom early age that it is OK to express happy emotions but not acceptable to express negative ones. How many times your parents told you " Don't cry", or "Don't be upset". So we keep those emotions inside, until layer upon layer of suppressed emotions build up inside us. They become repressed and they are stored in our emotional body, and then go to our physical body and become disease.

Just imagine, ANGER is a horrible emotion when it comes out, so imagine what it does if it stays inside you.

Again, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the emotions are not "good" or "bad", they simply are part of being human and alive. These feelings are indicators of our personal relationship with ourselves and the world.

Emotional Intelligence is the set of skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.

Listen, Accept, Respect and Honor your emotions is a must. Learn and Practice it is the best thing you could to for yourself and yours.
